National Fresh Breath Day–The Cozy Holiday

Gather your children around you and get ready to celebrate National Fresh Breath Day. It’s this week, August 6th, and Red Hot Read will be celebrating all week!
There are all kinds of ways to celebrate. This is the time when we cook big meals for our families, decorate our tables with dental floss and old toothbrushes, and sing songs around the fire about our dentists! After we’re done with that, unlike other holidays, we all remember to go to the bathroom and floss, brush, and rinse together as a family.
According to my research, this day has no religious significance. It’s just about family and good feelings.
We all have our own traditions for this special day, and I thought I’d share some of mine. Let’s start with the family ham recipe, which was stolen long ago and is now online.
Watching made-for-TV movies is another tradition. I distinctly remember the Hallmark production, starring Jaclyn Smith, where she finds out she’s going to lose all her teeth and there is no cure. Heartbreaking. If only she’d remembered to floss!
And squooshy feelings come from these three memories:
1) My mother making a miniature dentist’s office from nothing more than toothpicks and toothpaste. Not tasty like the gingerbread house on another holiday, but profound.
2) Our family going to a crowded mall, sitting in the common area, and throwing packets of mint leaves at people as they passed. It made people mad, but we loved it!
3) And Uncle Tom coming up to me and saying, “Pull my tooth!” It wasn’t as funny as “pull my finger,” but it was thematic.
There are two articles on halitosis that will cheer you. Here’s one on what foods to avoid and here’s another with bad-breath info from the ADA.
I just love talking about tongue scraping and volatile sulphur compounds, don’t you? Warms the cockles of my heart.
Okay. So let’s rally round and celebrate with all the love and passion we can muster!
It’s National Fresh Breath Day with family. Good times. Good times.

Yea, I have been waiting with baited breath for this day. I have my toothbrush, a new one, toothpaste and floss all ready for later tonight. I think I will use candlelight for this specail day.
This post is a breath of fresh air. You totally crack me up.
Nice to know people who, when I pull their legs, pull back!
